Study Answers Longstanding Question: Do Patients With Essential Tremor Have an Increased Risk for Parkinson’s Disease?

The incidence of Parkinson’s disease (PD) in patients with essential tremor (ET) is significantly higher than that reported in historical population-based control groups across numerous countries, according to a prospective longitudinal study published online May 10 in Neurology: Clinical Practice. The findings are consistent with those of another longitudinal prospective study of the relationship between ET and PD, which investigators from Spain published in Neurology in 2004.
