Study of Vocal Tremor in Arabic and English Speaking Populations

Research Studies

The University of Texas is seeking adults, ages 18 to 75, who are Arabic or English speakers, including individuals with vocal tremor related to essential tremor or laryngeal dystonia (previously known as spasmodic dysphonia) who are interested in participating in a study examining speech production and language processing.

This study does not include individuals with other neurological conditions (such as Parkinson’s disease) that affect speech.

The purpose of this research is to better understand how people produce speech sounds and sentences, and how speech patterns relate to language structure and vocal control. This research will contribute to a broader understanding of speech and communication.

Participants will complete a series of speech tasks, which may include:

-Producing simple speech sounds
-Describing pictures
-Reading short sentences aloud

Participation will take approximately one hour total, including instructions and consent procedures.
Participants will receive a $20 Visa eGift card as compensation for their time.
Participation is voluntary, and all data will be collected using secure, university-approved systems.

Eligible participants can access the study screening and consent survey by following this link: https://utexas.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0eMiYus83IfunFc
