Hi, my name is Conor. I’m 36 and from County Down Northern Ireland.

Since I was a young child I’ve had hand tremors that were noticeable but I never addressed the issue. Two years ago when they started to progress rapidly. Then one day, I suffered an FND seizure and was rushed to the hospital. I was then diagnosed with essential tremor by a neurologist. I also suffered hypnotic jerks at night when in bed, which were very extreme. They caused me to bite my tongue a lot.
Since my first diagnosis until now my essential tremor has progressed rapidly. Simple things like eating with a fork or trying to drink a cup of tea or glass of water are almost impossible! I’ve been on diazepam and propranolol which had no effect but I’m now on gabapentin three times a day and zonisamide at night which really helps.
The sad thing about essential tremor is that it’s a chronic illness and most people don’t know it exists. It does exist and it is a terrible disease!
