I live in Waterford, Ireland. Cannot understand why there is no procedure available for Dystonia with Essential Tremor other than medication with horrible side effects. I am turning 70 years of age, have had this condition from the age of 18. So tired of shaking!! Can someone help me please?
Have you looked at the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation website? There is some good information about surgical procedures. https://dystonia-foundation.org/living-dystonia/treatment/other-surgical-procedures/
Hi Louise,
I have both Dystonia and ET. Tremors in both hands, head, voice, trunk and sometimes leg. I am not a person that can tolerate foreign devices in my body. I just had the Focused Ultrasound brain procedure for my R (dominate) shaky hand and it is like a miracle to me. After 9 months I can go back to do the other side of brain to treat the L hand shaking and the head tremors which I am eager to do. Google Insightec Focused Ultrsound to learn more. If there is a Movement Disorder Center or Specialist at any hospitals in Ireland try to get on the list to see them. It is a vit of a long process to qualify for this outpatient brain surgery but well worth the wait in my opinion. Good luck to you on your journey! i had mine done here in the US in San Francisco, CA at UCSF
I’m presently on a waiting list for an ET brain scan from my neurologist after dealing with Essential Tremors for about 20 years. Just getting an appointment with him has taken years. But he says he can help.
